2 arrested in Fullerton home burglary where victim was tied up and left in a clo…

An 18-year-old man and a 17-year-old girl were arrested in connection with a residential burglary in Fullerton that was interrupted by the homeowner, who was assaulted, tied up and forced into a closet, police said Friday.

On Wednesday, Sept. 13, officers were called to the 1600 block of Island Drive by a homeowner who said he was confronted by two people who were inside his home when he returned from being away, Fullerton police said.

“Officers learned that the suspects ultimately assaulted the victim, tied him up and then placed him in a closet while they completed their ransacking of his residence,” Sgt. Jon Radus said in a statement.

“The victim was finally able to call police once the suspects fled and he was able to get free,” Radus said.

The burglars were caught on surveillance footage when they left the house with stolen items.

Investigators were able to identify the suspects and arrested 18-year-old Alatini Moli of Long Beach. The female suspect’s name is not being released because she’s underage.

Moli was being held at the Intake Release Center in Santa Ana while the girl was taken to Orange County Juvenile Hall.

Both were arrested and booked on suspicion of residential robbery, residential burglary, kidnapping, false imprisonment, assault and battery, conspiracy and a hate crime.

Radus said the suspects made statements to the victim about his race being a factor in why they were committing the crime.

Police ask anyone with information about the crime to contact Sgt. Matt Rowe at 714-738-6776 or Detective Billy Phu at 714-738-6534. Anonymous tips can be submitted to Orange County Crime Stoppers at 855-TIP-OCCS.
