Three people were injured, one critically, when a sedan crashed head-on into a fully loaded dump truck in Dracut yesterday, police said.
Cops, firefighters and ambulance crews responding to a reported motor vehicle accident on Route 110 and Varnum Road at about 7:11 a.m. found a crumpled Toyota Camry and a burning, overturned dump truck, Dracut police Chief Peter Bartlett said in a statement.
Investigators later determined that the female driver of the Camry crossed the center line before colliding with the dump truck. The driver of the sedan and the dump truck driver were both hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries while a male passenger in the Camry suffered “critical” injuries, Bartlett said.
“This was a serious incident and we ask for patience as we work with our partners from the Massachusetts State Police to investigate how this crash occurred,” Bartlett said. “I would like to thank the State Police, DOT and the EPA for assisting us with the scene.”
The investigation into the cause of the crash is being conducted by Dracut cops and state police. Anyone with information about the accident is urged to call Dracut Police Sgt. John Gosselin at 978-957-2123.
