‘All those shots keep replaying in my head’

Las Vegas resident Rubi Ramirez, working promotions at the Route 91 Harvest country music festival, was leaving the venue when the shots rang out. She told the Herald’s Chris Villani she is haunted by the sound of gunfire and the faces she saw.

I was working at the festival — we decided to pick up a shift because it was the last day. My co-workers wanted to see the rest of the show. … .

I was tired and I told my friends, “If you want to stay, go ahead.” So me and my other guy friend started walking back. I heard a few shots in the air and I stopped and turned around and asked him, “Did you hear that?”…

We turned around and there was a stampede of people running towards us. People with blood all over their hands, ducking and running and screaming. I told my friend to run and I lost track of him. …

You could tell the shots were coming from the sky because of the way they sounded, it was very echoey, very echoey. …

Breaking down in tears, Ramirez continued.

I haven’t been able to sleep. … I feel like I cheated death. I was there seconds before all this happened and I was tired and I wanted to go home and if it wasn’t for that, I would have been one of those people in the middle of the chaos. …

All the shots keep replaying in my head and I keep seeing the terror in these people’s faces. There were people throwing themselves off these bridges to get out onto the big boulevard. Just the fear in everyone’s faces, it’s just shocking.
