A Cameron Park man died and two of his family members were wounded Sunday night when a gunman opened fire at a crowd in a Las Vegas music festival, family members told KCRA 3.
Kurt Von Tillow, 55, died in the mass shooting. The two family members were shot in the lower extremities. They will undergo surgery but are expected to survive.
Around 10 p.m. local time, a gunman opened fire on the Route 91 Harvest Festival from inside the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino across the street. The gunman, 64-year-old Stephen Paddock, was later found dead in a hotel room. Police believe he killed himself prior to their entry.
Las Vegas authorities said Monday afternoon at least 59 people were killed and 527 were injured in the mass shooting.
Family member said Tillow’s wife was on top of him, trying to revive him, after he was shot.
Friends and family gathered at the Cameron Park Country Club Monday to mourn and remember Tillow. They led a procession of golf carts from the club, to which he belonged, to his home.
Outside Tillow’s backyard, family created a memorial with flowers and American flags. They said he was the “ultimate patriot.”
