Goodbye to summer concerts in San Juan, hello to fall recreation

Now that country music fans danced to the sounds of Smith on Sept. 20 at the final event in the city’s summer concert series, San Juan Capistrano turns its attention to fall recreation opportunities.

Where else but in San Juan can you sign up for a city recreation class in horsemanship? Or advanced horsemanship?

The next round of basic horsemanship classes begins Oct. 7, offering four Saturdays of instruction to boys or girls 8 to 16 years old for a fee of $40. The advanced class is $30 per class, or $120 for four Saturdays.

The city also offers classes ranging from ballroom dance to ballet folklorico. There is a “back to stretching” class designed for the working person who sits at a desk, next session starting Nov. 1.

For details, see the city’s “Hometown Happenings” magazine online at or call 949-493-5911.

The San Juan Capistrano Regional Library is into its fall programs, which range from a variety of storytelling programs for children, such as pajama storytime at 6:30 p.m. the third Monday of each month, to a book discussion group at 10:30 a.m. the fourth Tuesday of the month. Call ahead to find out which book.
