Man gets 16 months for planting drugs, weapons in woman’s truck

SANTA ANA – A Laguna Hills man who admitted to trying to frame a woman by planting weapons and drugs in her car was sentenced Thursday to 16 months in prison.

Kevin Brown, 44, and co-defendant Jennifer Michele Beale, 38, both pleaded guilty to felony conspiracy and false imprisonment charges, as well as misdemeanor counts of making a false report and altering evidence.

The pair on March 23, 2016 placed a “replica Sig Sauer BB gun, a 12-inch hunting knife, methamphetamine, a scale, small plastic bags, a note with names and dollar amounts and a glass pipe” in the bed of a truck parked at a woman’s Laguna Niguel home, according to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.

Several hours later, prosecutors said, Beale called police to claim that the woman had waved a gun during an argument before throwing it in the back of her truck.

Sheriff’s deputies went to the woman’s home and briefly detained her until she recognized a sunglasses case, which had been filled with methamphetamine and left in the truck, as Beale’s.

Brown did not speak during his sentencing. Beale, who was sentenced earlier this year, received the same prison time as Brown.

Deputy District Cynthia Nichols, who prosecuted the case, said she could not comment on why Brown and Beale tried to frame the woman.
