Coffee shops were a favorite study hall for Andrew Park while attending Kansas State University. He liked them so much he even became a barista.
He later earned a medical degree from Kansas University of Medicine and Biosciences, after doing a residency in the Bronx in New York.
But even while working as an emergency room doctor he still longed to keep his history with coffee shops going. So Park and his wife, Megha Ramaswamy, purchased the former D.B. Cooper’s building at 1804 W. 39th St. and after a major remodeling opened a “coffee and cocktails” operation called Nomads.
Nomads also offers wine and beer on tap and in bottles and cans, hot chocolate and teas, and Messenger coffee. Cocktails include the Bohemian with J. Rieger C. Midwestern Dry Gin, Elderflower and grapefruit, and the Paper Plane with Wild Turkey Bourbon, Aperol, Amaro Nonino and lemon. Andrew Olsen, bar manager at Bluestem and Rye, created the cocktail menu.
It also serves muffins, scones, croissants, cookies, brownies, breakfast burritos, sandwiches, quiches and bar snacks including a Green Dirt Farm cheese plate and crostini. The pastries are from the Kansas City Baking Co.
The Nomads name comes from Park’s love of travel, and photos featuring some of his trips line the walls, including from his climb to a base camp of Mount Everest, along with his place in Alaska, only reachable by floatplane. The Nomads logo…
