Placer County deputy involved in shooting in Carnelian Bay

The Placer County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a deputy-involved shooting in Carnelian Bay, near Lake Tahoe.

Deputies were responding to a welfare check in the 600 block of High Street when they encountered a person with a BBQ skewer. That person attempted to stab a deputy and the deputy fired because he feared for his safety, the Placer County Sheriff’s Office said.

The suspect was taken to a hospital in Reno.

The officer was not injured.

No other details have been released.
