Stockton Heat defenseman named to Canada’s Olympic roster

A Stockton Heat player has been named to Canada’s Ice Hockey roster for the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea.

Cody Goloubef, a defenseman for the AHL affiliate of the NHL’s Calgary Flames, becomes the fifth player in their franchise history to be called up to play for an international team, the Heat said.

“When the phone rang, and you picked it up, you had to kind of pinch yourself,” Goloubef said. “It’s such a unique year and it’s going to be really cool. It’s going to be wild.”

The Stockton Heat said this will be Goloubef’s third time representing Team Canada in a major international tournament.

“It’s such an honor and privilege to represent your country,” Goloubef said to the Stockton Heat. “To have that chance on the Olympic level is just a dream come true.”
