‘The Voice’ contestant Janice Freeman knows who her biggest fan is

One of the standout contestants on NBC’s “The Voice” this season has been Team Miley’s Janice Freeman.

She’s not just a reality star, but the 32-year-old powerhouse vocalist has become quite the celebrity at her 10-year-old daughter Hannah’s school.

“When I pick her up from class, the kids are like, ‘Oh, my God, Hannah. that’s your mom? She’s on TV,’” says Freeman, speaking by phone from her home in Compton. “And Hannah is like a little star, it’s so cute. It’s so cute to see these little babies inspired and you can’t put a price on it.”

Freeman returns to TV, again, during the “Playoffs” round of the show, a three-night event that comes to a close Wednesday, Nov. 15. The judges – Jennifer Hudson, Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, and Miley Cyrus – then decide which of the three singers will go on to represent their teams at the live show.

For Freeman, it’s been one showstopper after another.

Viewers probably remember the “Knockout” round when she sang “I’m Goin’ Down” by Mary J. Blige to stunning effect.

“If you want the best performance, the best thing that you can do is do something that can trigger certain points inside of you,” she says. “You’re able to deliver it better as opposed to a song that you can’t relate to.”

That “Knockout” performance won her the round. Before that, she stole her duet with Katrina Rose of “W.O.M.A.N.” by Etta James.

Hannah was impressed.

“She said, ‘Mom, this is a song people are going to listen to long after ‘The Voice’ is over,’ and that struck a chord with me,” Freeman says. “Although she knows mommy sings, to see her heart affected by that song makes me feel like I’ve already won.”
