Togia scores three TDs as Pacifica roars to another win over Garden Grove

GARDEN GROVE – The recipe for a Pacifica victory this season has usually been a heavy serving of dual-threat quarterback Ben Jefferson.

But Friday night belonged to another dual-threat star – linebacker/running back Isaak Togia.

Togia was able to add a different flavor that packed a powerful punch as he led the Mariners to a 48-14 victory over Garden Grove at Garden Grove High.

Pacifica (4-0) continued its torrid start to the season that has seen the Mariners outscore their first four opponents by a combined score of 162-28.

Togia rushed for 106 yards and three touchdowns and was also an imposing figure on defense, while Jefferson accounted for over 300 yards of offense and four TDs (two rushing, two passing).

Pacifica coach Vinnie Lopez liked what his 1-2 punch – Jefferson and Togia – brought to the table.

“I thought Isaak played a great football game,” Lope said. “I think that’s the thing that we have, is we’ve got those guys. We have Ben Jefferson, and if you want to try and take him away, then we’ve got Isaak Togia that you’ve got to be concerned with in the backfield as well.”

Pacifica led, 29-0, at the half thanks in large part to Togia, who was constantly getting tackles for either no gain or a loss.

In the third quarter, the Argonauts (1-3) scored a pair of touchdowns to cut into the deficit, 29-14.

The Pacifica defense was sloppy to start the second half, as it committed some crucial penalties that helped the Argonauts get on the scoreboard.

“I thought we were sloppy, I thought we gave them two scores that we shouldn’t have and we probably had close to 200 yards in penalties.” said Lopez.

Garden Grove showed its resiliency with an eight-minute drive to get on board with a Kevin Feliuai touchdown catch.

The Argonauts recovered an onside kick on the next play, and that led to another TD pass – this time Cristian Marquez hit Jose Carrillo for a 26-yard score.

Pacifica turned to its two standouts, Jefferson and Togia, at that point and both scored touchdowns in the fourth to put the game away.
