A 53-year-old Laguna Niguel man was in custody Friday, Sept. 15, after being arrested on suspicion of performing lewd acts on two 10-year-old girls, prosecutors said.
Glen Thomas Kauffman was arrested Thursday, Sept. 14 and is being held in lieu of the $1 million bail. Kauffman has been a board member of the UCI Alumni Association since 2014.
Deputy District Attorney Courtney Thom said Friday that Kauffman coaches a Laguna Niguel girls softball league, though would not say if Kauffman met the girls through the sport. Thom would not discuss many details of the case, citing the ongoing investigation, but said investigators are looking to see if there are more victims.
According to a criminal complaint, the lewd acts occurred between August 2014 and August 2017.
Kauffman is a 1986 graduate of UCI with a bachelor’s degree in information and computer science and a 1994 graduate of the school’s MBA program, according to a biography on a UCI Alumni web page.
Kauffman is a widowed father of three who has worked as a financial advisor at Atomi Financial Group of Irvine. He has lived in Orange County since 1981.
Kauffman is set to appear in court Monday, Sept. 18.
