University wins first CIF State girls golf championship in school history


Four of University’s five scoring players posted a score in the 70s to help the Trojans post a 28-over-par 383 on Tuesday at Poppy Hills Golf Course in Pebble Beach and win the first CIF State girls golf champioship in school history.

Dana Choi, Nadoka Honda and Coco Yang each posted a 3-over-par 74 to lead University while Samantha Cabunag and Alexis Kim added 79 an 82 for the Trojans, who finished seven shots clear second place Troy.

Honda, Yang and Choi were among a group of six players who posted a 74 to tie for fourth as was Kornkamol Sukaree, who qualified as an individual for Anaheim Discovery Chirstian. Zoe Campos from West Ranch won with a 2-under-par 69.

Isabel Sy, who finished second in the SCGA So Cal Championship on Thursday in Riverside, led the Warriors with a 75. Kamille Dimayuga and Milan Hirata each carded a 77, Sherilyn Villaneuva added a 79 and Elyse Kim fired an 82 to round out the scoring for the Warriors.
