West’s Mario Goodrich wins Suburban Gold co-defensive player of the year

Mario Goodrich of Lee’s Summit West was selected co-defensive player of the year on the Suburban Gold All-Conference football team.

Goodrich, a 6-foot-1, 170-pound cornerback and wide receiver, shared the honor with Blue Springs defensive lineman Daniel Parker.

Last season, Goodrich had one interception with 49 total tackles. The Nebraska commit also made 16 catches for 247 yards and a touchdown and rushed for another touchdown.

Goodrich was one of three first-team selections from the Titans, who finished 8-3 after bowing out in the Class 6, District 4 semifinals.

Running back Phillip Brooks (5-9, 165), a senior who rushed for 1,666 yards and 21 touchdowns and caught eight touchdown passes, was selected to the first-team offense along with wide receiver Cade Clemons. Clemons, a 6-2 junior who also played quarterback, had a team-best 31 catches for 577 yards and six touchdowns.

Lee’s Summit North had two first-team selections in junior defensive lineman TreVaunte Hunt and senior linebacker Miles Craddock. Hunt (6-2, 220) had eight sacks and 58 tackles for the Broncos, while Craddock (5-10, 210) was second on the team with 68 tackles.

Lee’s Summit senior offensive lineman T.J. Kennedy (6-5, 320) also was a first-team selection in the trenches along with Raymore-Peculiar senior Zach Starfarth.

West quarterback Ben Kobel was selected to the second-team offense along with fellow Titans Sean Loske and Cobe Rees on the line. Lee’s Summit running back Preston Whitworth and tight end Spencer Parker also made the second-team offense along with North lineman Noah Martin and Ray-Pec wide receiver Luke Grimm.

Second-team defense selections included linebacker Ben Weaver and lineman Felix Anudike from Lee’s Summit; linebacker Shane Martin, defensive back Mason Pratt, and punter Brenton Eggers from Ray-Pec; West linebacker Joey Fredrickson; and North defensive back Jaylen Hickles.

Park Hill quarterback Billy Maples and wide receiver Ronnie Bell were unanimous first-team selections, while Blue Springs punter Josh Dodge was a unanimous first-team defensive pick.
