The holiday music and displays began the day after Halloween in some area shops and department stores, but those were the early birds. The traditional start to the season is Thanksgiving week, which is especially true in Kansas City.
The area’s three biggest kickoff events will be on consecutive days — Christmas in the Sky at Longview Lake Beach on Nov. 22, the Plaza Lighting Ceremony on Nov. 23 (Thanksgiving) and the Mayor’s Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony at Crown Center on Nov. 24.
Depending on your preferences, you will have a selection of holiday-related activities almost every day thereafter. From concerts and plays to homes tours and lighting displays to ice skating and road racing, there will be something for everybody.
Here then is our mega list of area holiday activities.
Opens 8 p.m. Nov. 17 at Spencer Theatre
Discover the true meaning of Christmas as Kansas City Repertory Theatre presents a stage version of Charles Dickens’ classic for the 37th year. This will be a new adaptation, however, with musical numbers complementing the story of Ebenezer Scrooge. Runs through Dec. 24. 816-235-2700. Tickets are $30-$102 through kcrep.org.
